Woodville Walled Gardens
Woodville is home to a restored walled kitchen garden along with a museum outlining the fascinating connection to Lady Augusta Gregory at Woodville. Come for a visit to this romantic secret garden in the West of Ireland and enjoy the sights, scents and colours contained within the original stone walls.
During your time with us you will be able to see what an important role this historical walled garden once played, supplying the house with vegetables, fruit and flowers all year round.
Lady Gregory Yeats Trail
Lady Gregory Yeats Trail incorporates historical sites between the towns of Gort and Loughrea associated with Lady Gregory and W.B.Yeats. These sites include Kilmacduagh, Coole Park, Kiltartan Gregory Museum, Thoor Ballylee, Killinane Graveyard, Roxborough Gates, Woodville Walled Gardens and St. Brendan’s Cathedral.
The unique landscape of South Galway and its people inspired both Lady Gregory and W.B. Yeats to create some of their greatest works. Writers, poets, historians, artists and musicians have long been attracted to the area. We invite you to follow in the footsteps of Lady Gregory and W.B. Yeats along this trail.
Coole Park which, together with the adjoining Garryland, is a Nature Reserve of approximately 405 hectares (1000 acres). The seven woods celebrated by W.B. Yeats are part of the 6 kilometres of nature trails taking in woods, river, turlough, bare limestone and Coole lake. Coole Park was once the home of Lady Augusta Gregory, dramatist, folklorist and co-founder of the Abbey Theatre with Edward Martyn of Tullira Castle and Nobel prize-winning poet William Butler Yeats. Coole Park, in the early 20th century, was the centre of the Irish Literary Revival. Yeats, George Bernard Shaw, John Millington Synge and Sean O’ Casey all came to experience its magic
The Coole Park Restaurant is located in the recently restored building at the stable yard. This modest establishment provides a wide selection of homemade dishes and desserts.
Dunguaire Castle was built in 1520 on the shores of Galway Bay near Kinvara Town.
The restored Tower House is open to the public and gives an insight into the history of the times. Dunguaire Castle Banquets are held nightly during the Summer months, an evening of good food and entertainment.
The Burren is an area of limestone rock covering mountains and valleys. The limestone rock formations of the Burren are home to many alpine and Mediterranean plants and as you drive through this region you can view the extraordinary array of flora and wildlife.
